Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright offered a short performance at a screening of Sing Me the Songs That Say I Love You, the film documenting a 2011 tribute concert for his mother, the late Kate McGarrigle, at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles late last month. The 22-minute set in the Hammer's courtyard included two much-loved Kate McGarrigle songs—"The Work Song" and "(Talk to Me of) Mendocino"—as well as some of his own tunes and the Arlen/Harburg classic "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," which holds a special place in family lore. You can watch the complete set below.

The film Sing Me the Songs That Say I Love You was directed by Lian Lunson and includes performances by Rufus and his sister Martha Wainwright; Kate McGarrigle's sister and musical partner Anna McGarrigle; as well as Emmylou Harris, Teddy Thompson, Norah Jones, Sloan Wainwright, and more. Earlier this year, Nonesuch Records released Sing Me the Songs: Celebrating the Works of Kate McGarrigle, a two-CD set of songs from the New York concert captured in the film and two others held in honor of the late singer-songwriter.

To pick up a copy of the Sing Me the Songs album on CD, MP3, and FLAC, head to the Nonesuch Store, where CD orders include a download of the complete album at checkout. Net proceeds from the sale of the album will go to the Kate McGarrigle Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money in the fight against sarcoma, a rare form of cancer from which McGarrigle died in 2010, and also to preserving her legacy through the arts.
