Olivia Chaney, whose new album, Shelter, was released last month, has shared a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the album. She took filmmaker Gavin Elder to the rustic, 18th-century cottage in the hills of the North Yorkshire Moors where she wrote the songs on the album to discuss writing there and later recording the album in New York City with producer Thomas Bartlett. You can take a look in the video below.

Shelter is the Guardian's Folk Album of the Month. "As soon as Shelter begins, you fall into its warmly drawn, welcoming world," writes Jude Rodgers in the four-star review. "Chaney’s voice is effortless, clear and bright ... The ghosts of Sandy Denny’s early 1970s solo albums are never very far away, but what gleaming ghosts those are to carry with you." The Sunday Times' Clive Davis says: "If there’s a hint of Joni Mitchell, Chaney establishes her own voice from the outset ... Rare beauty."

To pick up a copy of Shelter, head to your local record store, iTunes, Amazon, and the Nonesuch Store, where orders include a download of the complete album at checkout; it can also be heard on Spotify and Apple Music

Olivia Chaney will return to North America for a three-week tour, starting in Decatur, Georgia, on July 24. The tour includes headline shows in DC, Cambridge, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Portsmouth, Burlington, Toronto, Chicago, Minneapolis, Portland, and San Francisco, plus sets as special guest of Patty Griffin on Long Island and Bruce Hornsby in Washington. The original cast album of Adam Guettel’s Broadway musical Days of Wine and Roses, with a book by Craig Lucas, starring Kelli O’Hara and Brian d’Arcy James, is now available on CD, following its recent digital release. “Repeated listenings compound the amazement,” the New York Times says of Guettel’s work, which “has always offered that kind of challenge—initially leaving a feeling of: Beautiful, but wait, I need to hear it again—and those up for it have a way of coming away shining like Moses down from the Mount. The new score has the same effect.” Guettel, O'Hara, and d'Arcy James—all of whom have been nominated for Tony Awards for Days of Wine and Roses—will sign copies of the CD at the Drama Book Shop in NYC this Wednesday, May 22.
