Bombino stopped by the offices of NPR Music in Washington, DC, during the first leg of his US tour earlier this year, to perform a Tiny Desk Concert—the 300th episode in the series of intimate sets at the desk of All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen. The Niger-born Tuareg singer/songwriter/guitarist and his band perform three songs—"Tamiditine," "Her Tenere," and "Imuhar"—from his Nonesuch Records debut album, Nomad, which was produced by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach.

Boilen, praising Bombino's "fierce, hypnotic guitar playing" and "amazing jams," also recognizes a "familiarity in his music stems from the blues," with connections to Jimi Hendrix, and "a sense of simple, honest discovery that shows up in his smile as he plays." You can read more of what Boilen has to say at npr.org and watch the performance below.

Bombino, who performs in Israel this Tuesday before continuing his tour of Europe and the UK through mid-November, will return to the States later that month to launch the next leg of his tour, which will extend into December. For details and ticket links, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

To pick up a copy of Nomad, head to the Nonesuch Store, where CD and vinyl orders include a download of the complete album at checkout.

The original cast album of Adam Guettel’s Broadway musical Days of Wine and Roses, with a book by Craig Lucas, starring Kelli O’Hara and Brian d’Arcy James, is now available on CD, following its recent digital release. “Repeated listenings compound the amazement,” the New York Times says of Guettel’s work, which “has always offered that kind of challenge—initially leaving a feeling of: Beautiful, but wait, I need to hear it again—and those up for it have a way of coming away shining like Moses down from the Mount. The new score has the same effect.” Guettel, O'Hara, and d'Arcy James—all of whom have been nominated for Tony Awards for Days of Wine and Roses—will sign copies of the CD at the Drama Book Shop in NYC this Wednesday, May 22.
