Emmylou Harris is the inaugural guest on Margo Price’s new six-episode podcast series Runaway Horses from Sonos. Price’s guests on the new show are those who, like its titular horses, have “taken left turns when they were told to go right; they’ve made music that says something raw and beautiful and cathartic about the human experience.” Harris is “one of my biggest inspirations, one of my favorite musicians of all time,” says Price, “a true living legend … She has never been afraid to follow her creative instinct, embrace risks, and pursue the unexpected.” You can hear their conversation below via Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Ramble in Music City: The Lost Concert, Harris’s latest release, features the 1990 Nashville debut of her acoustic all-star group the Nash Ramblers—Sam Bush, Roy Huskey Jr., Larry Atamanuik, Al Perkins, Jon Randall Stewart—at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. The concert was recorded and shelved until now, when, more than 30 years later, it has been unearthed to be released for the first time. The set features entirely different songs from the band's acclaimed live album At the Ryman, with music by A.P. Carter, Rodney Crowell, Ruth Franks, the Louvin Brothers, Doc Pomus, Paul Simon, Townes Van Zandt, and Harris herself. You can get in on vinyl and hear it here.

Harris, who performed at the Beach Road Weekend festival on Martha’s Vineyard yesterday, is touring on a double bill with Mary Chapin Carpenter with sold-out shows at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA, and Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, MI, this week, and a night at Ravinia Festival outside Chicago on Friday. Brad Mehldau’s After Bach II and Après Fauré are out now on Nonesuch Records. The Bach album comprises four preludes and one fugue from the Well-Tempered Clavier, as well as the Allemande from the fourth Partita, interspersed with seven compositions or improvisations by Mehldau inspired by the complementary works of Bach—including Mehldau’s Variations on Bach’s Goldberg Theme. On Après Fauré, Mehldau performs four nocturnes, from a thirty-seven-year span of Gabriel Fauré’s career, as well as a reduction of an excerpt from the Adagio movement of his Piano Quartet in G Minor. Here Mehldau’s four compositions that Fauré inspired are presented in a group, bookended by two sections featuring the French composer’s works.
